It was really hard to narrow this list down, but here are the top 5 things you should definitely put on your agenda during a McCall winter weekend getaway.  McCall and the surrounding area provide both great outdoor adventures and culinary experiences.  So, with much thought and polling our friends and neighbors we came up with the absolute MUST do’s for your winter weekend getaway.

  1. Eat Dinner at Rupert’s Restaurant located in Hotel McCall downtown.  Executive Chef and James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef in the Northwest, Gary Kucy will amaze you with his Idaho inspired meals.   Besides the delicious cuisine and full bar, Rupert’s  has great views of Payette Lake and the backside of Brundage Mountain.   Fine dining in a laid back mountain atmosphere.
  2. Cat Skiing at Brundage Mountain.  Most people are not aware that Brundage Mountain Resort has 17,000 acres of guided cat skiing in the back country of the Payette National Forest.  This is a full day adventure skiing in steeps, glades, and open bowls.  They provided lunch, powder boards, beacons, and most importantly experienced guides who are licensed by the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Association.
  3. Go for a soak at Gold Fork Hot Springs.  After a long day on the slopes or trails, head just out of town for a soak in the naturally hot water at Gold Fork.  The water is rich in minerals and perfect for relaxing after a long day recreating.  They have 6 pools that range from cool to very hot along with a couple of hydro massage waterfalls.
  4. Dinner at the Blue Moon Yurt.  This is a meal that you will make a tradition each winter.   To clarify, this is not just a meal, it’s an experience.  The Yurt is nestled in the trees on the shores of the Payette Lake in Ponderosa State Park.  Guided in by the glow of tiki torches, you ski or snowshoe about a mile into the park to arrive at the yurt.  As you enter the candlelit yurt you are welcomed by a mug of hot spiced wine and friendly staff.   Dining at family style tables you will enjoy a multi course meal.  The food is ethnic cuisine and it out of this world delicious.
  5. Nordic skiing at any one of McCall’s world class trail systems.  There are 4 major cross country skiing trail systems in and around McCall; Ponderosa State Park, Bear Basin, Jug Mountain, and Tamarack Ski Resort.  All offer miles of groomed pristine trails for all levels of skier.  If don’t own your own gear, you can rent cross country equipment at Gravity Sports.

We hope you come and enjoy all that McCall has to offer.  We love our little town on the lake and want to share our favorite things to do with you.
